In Gaza, life has become a countdown between sirens. But in the silence that follows each one, there are stories the world rarely hears — stories of resilience, loss, courage, and hope.
60 Seconds is an ongoing multimedia campaign by the Sharek Youth Forum, documenting the human cost of war through the eyes of those who live it — especially the children, youth, and families navigating daily survival under siege. Each video in this series shines a light on a different aspect of life in Gaza — from disrupted education, to infant care under blockade, to initiatives that offer vision and dignity, even in darkness.
This campaign doesn’t speak in numbers alone. It speaks in laughter cut short, lessons unlearned, futures paused, and childhoods stolen — but also in community strength, volunteer courage, and a will to rebuild.
Children on the Brink:
Over 625,000 children in Gaza have been cut off from formal education due to destroyed schools, mass displacement, or militarization of civilian spaces (UNICEF, 2024).
Hunger and Malnutrition:
By mid‑2025, more than 470,000 people in Gaza were facing catastrophic food insecurity, with 1 in 3 children under two suffering from acute malnutrition, and 3% in severe wasting — a rate not seen before in this population (UNICEF, Financial Times).
Education Under Fire:
Over 5,400 students and 200+ teachers have lost their lives or gone missing, and more than 390 educational institutions have been partially or fully destroyed (UN OCHA, 2025).
Health System Collapse:
Only a few hospitals remain partially functioning in Gaza. With electricity cut off and medical supply chains severed, infants, pregnant women, and the elderly are the most vulnerable (Reuters, 2025).
