Advocacy and Human Rights

At Sharek Youth Forum, advocacy is seen as a deliberate process of speaking out on issues of concern to young people, in order to exert influence on public policy and resource allocation decisions that directly affect young people’s lives. Sharek defines advocacy as the pursuit of influencing outcomes within political, economic, and social systems and institutions. Advocacy is not restricted to an activity, a project or an area of intervention, it is implemented throughout all of Sharek’s programmes and activities.

During 2009 a significant aspect of Sharek’s advocacy strategy was to develop the capacities of young journalists to become active participants in the promotion, enhancement and monitoring of Human Rights.
