“Sharek has given me a tool to express myself, the ability to successfully voice my own opinions, or listen to those of my peers. This is an excellent initiative” Samer Betawi, Sharek Volunteer.
Sharek Youth Forum is pleased to announce the launch of its new radio station 'sharekradio.net’. Sharek Radio was launched in the presence of Palestinian Minister of Culture, Seham Barghouti; Adviser to the President for Communications and Technology, Sabri Saidam; as well as other leading Palestinian individuals.
Sharek Radio is an online radio programme that is run by the youth of Palestine, for the youth of Palestine. Sharek radio aims to create a new advocacy tool for the Palestinian youth, allowing them to have an open forum to discuss social and political issues that directly affect them.
Sharek Radio will play host too many discussions, debates and interviews. It will also become a leading tool for the promotion of debate and dialogue, social media, advocacy and volunteerism. Similarly, through initiatives such as its Youth Debate Club, Sharek Radio will foster the importance of youth participation in social and political matters.
Sharek Radio has the ability to engage young individuals that regularly access the internet. It will also endeavour to become an educational tool, a means for communication and dialogue without censorship and a form of entertainment.
Seham Barghouti hoped that the launching of this Radio Station will allow the youth to connect the traditions of the past to the cultures of the present. The youth now have a unique tool to promote cultural awareness to their peers in Palestine. Sabri Saidam offered a gift of a unique novel regarding the historical cultures of Palestine, suggesting that the youth should read a section every day on the station to continue to bridge the gap between the past and the present.
Sharek Executive Director, Bader Zamareh stated “Radio Sharek is for the youth by the youth. The development of young people in Palestine does not merely mean trainings, it means allowing them the space to create, develop, and initiate their own ideas. Sharek Radio is one of the first projects that will be completely managed by the youth of Palestine, targeting issues and subject that affect them the most”.
