In the presence of 280 beneficiaries and in collaboration with 15 companies, foundations, and Banks, Sharek Youth Forum and the international relief in partnership with Al-Quds Open University organize the first Career day in the province of Salfit

Salfit- Sharek Youth Forum- April 16, 2008: Sharek Youth Forum and the International Relief arranged schools via the Internet through the Community Development Centre in the province of Salfit, yesterday, in partnership with Al-Quds Open University and in coordination with the Student Union Council in Salfit’s educational area, the first “Employment Day”. This took place at the headquarters of Al-Quds Open University, in collaboration with the national drinks company Coca-Cola, Rafah Bank, Al-Quds Bank for Development and Investment, ABC, the Palestinian Cellular Communications Co- Jawwal, Al-Mashriq Insurance Company, the Engineers Association, the Chamber of Commerce of industrial and agricultural products in the province of Salfit, Sabaya Center, Arab Bank, and the Bank of Palestine limited which took place within “A Step Forward” program’s “Career Counseling” funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and executed by Sharek Youth Forum.

The Director of Al- Quds Open University in the province of Salfit, Dr. Ahmad Al-Zeer, stressed the importance of this type of activity in support of the youth sector in general and new graduates in particular, through the provision of opportunities for students to become familiar with the banks, companies and institutions working in Palestine.

For his part, the general director of students at Al-Quds Open University, Dr. Mohammad Shahin, reviewed some of the achievements of the university at the local and arab level- the latest being the release of the file on university graduates who through this is working on processing a database of Palestinian graduates and companies, praising the institutions, Sharek Youth Forum and the International Relief for this initiative.

In turn, the representative of Sharek Youth Forum, Hazem Abu Hilal, stated that the Forum has succeeded in establishing a strong partnership with universities and institutes of higher education in Palestine, in addition to a large number of Palestinian companies and institutions whom he praised for the time and effort provided by their representatives in serving the youth sector. He assured the continuation of work and the partnership with Al-Quds Open University, which culminated in the creation of a unit of employment in each of Ramallah and Gaza.

The director of the International Relief, Nasfat Al-Khafash, expressed his joy for implementing this day, emphasizing the strategic relationship between the International Relief, Al-Quds Open University and Sharek Youth Forum and the continuation of work to serve the youth sector, in hope to continue this type of activity.

The project coordinator for the “Career Counseling” project at Sharek Youth Forum, Niveen Qadadha, stated “This day was the result of the needs of students” noting that more than 280 youths of both sexes participated in the interview experience, stressing the continuation of the Forum to work on this type of activity at the national level, and to support graduates and prepare them for entering the labor market through partnership with the private sector and the Palestinian universities.

Qadadha commended the efforts of the partners in support of Palestinian youth through their participation in the career counseling of university graduates "A Step Forward" program, expressing her hope that it will continue the joint work towards development and progression for the sake of supporting Palestinian youth.

The managing director of the Engineering Association in the West Bank, Mohammed Zubaidi, assured that it was a leadership experience and that the Association participated, multiple times, in these kinds of activities in partnership with Sharek Youth Forum and is proud of the experience with the Forum. The Association expressed that it is willing to participate and support this kind of activities in the future.

 

Hani Samara, a delegate from the Arab Bank considered this day a positive step in the right direction, especially in this marginalized region that is deprived of its rights, where the companies and students benefit mutually.


While Omar Taha, a representative from the Arab Bank said: A day like this benefits both parties from allowing the graduates to get acquainted with the companies and giving them the opportunity for exposure to real practical experience in job interviewing which is a good opportunity for companies to get acquainted with a large number of graduates.

Rafah Bank delegate, Abdel Qader Dhiab, stressed the importance of this opportunity to get acquainted with the students and their hopes and the need to take this experience seriously and implement it in a bigger and broader way.

In turn, the Director of Human Resources - National beverage company Coca Cola, Samir Marii, said that the interview process is a good bridge between companies and students; the students can get acquainted with the needs of the companies while the companies get a chance to find a group of graduates that will fit their employment positions. The National beverage company expressed its interest in supporting the youth whether it is through “Career Day” or any other project for that matter.

The company representative at Jawwal, Rami Khlef, commended the Forum on this experience in educating graduates and preparing them for job interviews, stressing that Jawwal Cellular Communication Company is supportive of the youth sector, and is hoping to continue the relationship with Sharek Youth Forum in serving this sector.

Palestinian youth delegation meets with Carter in Ramallah

Al-Beireh- Sharek Youth Forum- April 15, 2008: Palestinian youth delegation studied, with the former President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter, the situation of young Palestinians’ economic, political and social conflicts, their interior implications and state of geographical division and the political tugging going on in the Palestinian territories in light of the talk on the socio-economic development of the Palestinian people.

This came during a meeting, yesterday, organized by the secretary-general of Sharek Youth Forum, Sufian Mushasha, with the former President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter, at the conference hall in Ramallah in Jimzo Houses. Also with the participation of the Director of the Business Support Unit in the Forum Yousef Ghosheh and Saba Abu Dakkah, the representative of the Palestinian youth Union, Aghsan Barghouthi, the representative of the Palestinian board for Media and activating the role of youth, Byyalara, Ruba Almimi, and the representative for the Welfare Association Haya Basil Al-Hajj.

The participants presented the daily suffering of Palestinian youth resulting from the occupation and its illogical processes across military checkpoints, arrests and restricted freedom of movement, which contributed to high rates of poverty and unemployment among young people, pushing them to think about immigration, especially among technically and scientifically qualified persons.

In turn, the former President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter, and the accompanying delegation, showed great interest in issues of Palestinian youth, because of their importance in resolving the dispute and conflict in the Middle East, and expressed his admiration for the complete honesty of the Palestinian youth delegation in presenting their cases, concerns, struggles and future aspirations
