Sea Camps 2007 "Safety First" project: UNRWA Summer Games

Project Overview
Sea Camps 2007 "Safety First"
project was implemented as part of the UNRWA Summer Games 2007, which seeks to provide recreational outlets and is built on the concepts of creativity, personal development and enjoyment. Given the huge lack of recreational facilities in the Gaza Strip, many youth and children come to the beach in their free time, particularly during the summer holidays. Many of them do not possess the necessary swimming and water safety skills though, and often place their lives in danger. In the Sea Camps "Safety First" project, youth were trained in lifeguard duties and more than 12,000 children and youth were engaged in swimming lessons, water-based games and team sports. For that purpose, five permanent well-equipped locations were constructed which can be used for future beach-based activities as well.
