Introduction to Bridges Programme

The problem of unoccupied youth, adolescents and children in the oPt due to poor or damaged recreational and educational infrastructure, especially for young people with disabilities, has severe effects on community development. Instead of supervised activities, children spend their spare time watching television and older youth gather in the street, which can lead to various social problems such as drug abuse, delinquency or violent behavior.

Children, adolescents and youth must have the ability and right to play, the right to innovate, and the right to education in order to ensure the healthy development of future generations. In recognition of this, Sharek’s Bridges Programme aims at building bridges with an emphasis on establishing fun and safe environments, providing enrichment, supporting education and providing first-level psychosocial support.

In addition to special projects under Bridges, there are weekly activities delivered by volunteers based on four components: joy and fun activities, enrichment activities, education and twinning activities. Sharek’s Youth Enrichment Incubators are spaces where priority is given to children with disabilities, special learning needs or who are from poorer backgrounds. Homework centers continue to provide children with the necessary improvements in the academic and educational field. According to its approach, Sharek transfers the knowledge and experience of running Homework Centers to partner organizations.
